The Waste Land

New Media Experimental Opera

19-21 July 2024
RCA IED Festival, London, UK

The Waste Land (2024) begins with the story of the "Mountain Spirit" from "Nine Songs," transforming and reconstructing this traditional text within a contemporary context to create a cyborg Mountain Spirit figure that symbolizes fluid identity and gender plurality. The work employs the traditional Chinese literary imagery of "pine wind" as a medium, presenting a spectacle of postmodern spiritual wasteland. By reconstructing time and space on the theatrical stage, "The Waste Land" aims to capture the infinity within the postmodern context and the existential anxiety it implies, using the classical mythological text of the Mountain Spirit to explore the collective human destiny and unconsciousness regarding the past, present, and future, embedded in the theme of waiting.

The Oyster of Time

AI Generated Music
Intermedia Corporeal Opera

March 2024
White City, London, UK

The Oyster of Time (2024) is a intermedia corporeal opera project featuring AI-generated composition and arrangement, incorporating lyrics adapted from Jorge Luis Borges' poem "You are Not the Others."

This project starts from a sense of fragmentation in time, exploring the human desire for coherence and wholeness, as well as the impossibility to reach it. And responds to this impossibility, providing an answer: to move towards your desires even if they are unreachable. Confronts your desires with the spirit of Sisyphus, never compromising.

The flesh incessantly passes in desire and time. We attempt to traverse through loss and rupture, to locate our desires, and to move towards them.

Case No._

Experimental Interactive Theatre

January 2024
Battersea, London, UK

This project emerges from a critical reflection on animal experimentation, examining the correlation between Giorgio Agamben's concept of the "anthropological machine" and the symbolic hybrid figures in mythological narratives. Mythological beings possessing both human and animal characteristics fundamentally challenge the human-animal dichotomy, precipitating profound inquiries into questions of identity, power relations, the nature of consciousness, and humanity's relationship with the natural world.

Inspired by a journey of awareness of a pine tree. When i saw it, it stood alone on the vast land, empty, clean, and lonely. The rustling sound of the wind passing through the pine needles brought to my mind a word in traditional Chinese literature “SongTao”. It used to describe the sound of the wind blowing through the pine forest, like the waves of the sea.

The wind passed through its pine needles. I suppose he will miss the sea too.

I See You

Sound Narrative Work

25-28 November 2023
Corner 7 Gallery, London UK

I See You (2023) is a sound narrative work that takes the story of Briget's resurrected birth in 2080 as a starting point for an imagined journey into how cyborg bodies exist and perceive time in a post-human era.

Work try to explore and answer what "immortality" really means in a context where "immortality" can be achieved through technological development. When the biological boundaries of the body are broken by technology, how do our bodies exist, how do we stand, and how do we define ? When the time limit of life is broken, will our existence still have meaning ? How should we define existence and time under this infinity?

Next To Feeling

Experimental Theatre Performance

2 June 2022
ShanHai Theatre Studio, Beijing China

Next To Feeling (2022) is an experimental theatre performance that recreates the emotional connection dilemma of alexithymia patients, and also proposes ways of combining body perception with emotion to make emotions flow in the body to reconnect intimacy with each other, depicting a world in which the body senses emotions and the body and soul interweave.

And it tries to question in the current situation of the increasingly insensitive emotional perception: how does the flow of emotion change the connection of our intimate relationship? How do we build new intimate relationships as we move toward a post-human era in which skin touch is replaced by other media?
